Rosewell Shiatsu Centre - Shiatsu for Equine Health & Well Being
Legal Background
UK students on this course should understand the legal background against which this training is undertaken. Broadly speaking, owners and their family / staff can do anything for their sick animals short of cruelty, anybody else must be a veterinary surgeon.
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has the authority under the terms of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966. By the Veterinary Surgery (Exemption Order) 1962, physiotherapy is permitted IF the animal has been seen by a Vet AND the Vet has prescibed that treatment.
Recently, the RCVS has declared Shiatsu a form of physiotherapy and considers that the 1962 Order applies to Shiatsu.
Rosewell Shiatsu Centre requires all its Horse & Rider Shiatsu to respect this position and to conduct their horse related Shiatsu work in full knowledge.
